Biological Molecules Lab

This picture was taken before I put the Iodine drops onto the food that is labeled above.

This picture was taken after the iodine drops were put onto the food. The bread and the cracker turned black (The darkest) because of the starch

This was the oil test. Oil was the most oily.

This is each food in the test tubes before putting the benedict solution in it.

The two pictures above is with the benedict solution in it before it was put into the heated water.

This is the test tubes with each food item inside with the benedict solution heating up.

The two pictures above are the test tubes with the benedict solution after it has been heated up for about 5 minutes and taken out. The first test tube fourth test tube and sixth test tube are all negative, the rest are positive.

My 6 week exercise plan

My fitness goal overal is to become for strong and more fit. I want to start eating a healthy diet and exercising a lot more. I really want to improve my stamina and I would do that by increasing the amount of cardio I do. I also want to work on core strength and strength overall. In order to meet my goals over the 6 week plan I need to be committed and be focused on what I want to achieve. I will be recording all my results and hopefully see improvements as the weeks go on. I will also be comparing my beep test score and all that I write down when doing any sort of fitness testing, at the end of the 6 weeks I will compare and see what I improved in most. I want to work on my stamina because I play sports and that is probably what I lack most in which is not convenient for me. I also want to prove my self wrong because I hate running when it's not during a sport, I get bored easily and tend to just give up.

I will post my workouts weekly.

Protein lab

1) the bond is found between the amino acids in the primary structure is peptide bond.

2) the secondary structure forms a alpha helix because the (-) and the (+) attracts causing them to form a alpha helix from the peptide bonds.

3) the repulsion and covalent bonds created the third structure when the protein was twisted and bent. It looked different because there are 20 different variables which can make different combinations.

4) the fourth structure was created when two or more amnio acids and the variables repelled or attracted.

5) the protein would not have the same shape if the primary structure was changed because the R group attraction and repulsion determines it.

colon surgery video

Colon Cancer Surgery Reflection
After watching the video I thought it was really col to see how they inflated the persons stomach with Co2 to have more space and better view for the surgery. The video I watched went on for quite a while and it was crazy to see how slowly but how much co2 was put into the persons stomach and how much it expanded. It was really disgusting yet interesting to see how things from inside look and I find it crazy how doctors actually touch, cut and move things from your body.  I learnt that the colon is a part of our large intestine. Another interesting fact is that you do not have to receive symptoms to have colon cancer it could be growing inside you for a couple years. A way to find out is after a body scan and the cause of colon cancer is when your cells do not function properly.

When  the doctors were pumping in the CO2, to inflate the abdomen to have a better view and more space.
Staples used to connect the small bowel to the colon.
The video of the surgeons using a stapler and electrocautery to divide the colon.

OSTEOARTHRITIS

OSTEOARTHRITIS

Osteoarthritis is  known as degenerative arthritis, or degenerative joint disease or osteoarthrosis is the most common form of arthritis, and it affects millions of people worldwide. It occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of our bones wears down over time. Symptoms of the disease include joint pain, tenderness, stiffness & locking.
Even though it can affect any joint in our body, the disorder is most commonly affected in our joints in our hands, knees, hips, and spines. Osteoarthritis, over time worsens & has no existing cure. However, staying fit, maintaining a healthy weight, and various other treatments can slow the disorder and improve pain and joint function.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and is the leading cause of chronic disability in the US. *It affects approx. 1.9 million people in Australia. 8 million people in the UK and shockingly nearly 27 million people in the US.*

I have chosen to do my post on Osteoarthritis, because my mom works with old/ ill people and I have heard that illness before but was not very aware of what it was exactly.  After doing some research i have gained much knowledge on this.

Respiration lab

Intro: the process of external gas exchange takes place between air and lungs. 02 goes into blood from air through the alveoli and CO2 goes into alveoli into air from blood, because of cellular respiration.

Part A: The result of the aerating of limewater remain the same there were no changes. However, the test tube we breed came cloudy.

Part B: The beaker that was aerated  turned blue/green the beaker with the other distilled water that was breathes into turn orange/yellow. Therefore, aerated was neutral and breathed into one was strong acid.

Part C: breast taken in one minute were 28, 25 and 18. The numbers in 30 seconds are basically half the amount of one minute except are kind of higher, for example 18 breathes per 30 seconds. This means we should be taking in more breathes.

Questions:
Part A:

1). The change in color in the limewater indicates that the CO2 we breathe out reacted with the limewater to create a solid precipitate

2). The purpose of the control test tube is to see the difference between both the tubes and what causes the changes to the limewater, it shows which variable causes changes and in this case it was our breathing out into the limewater.

Part B:

3). The change in color of the universal indicator means that the air we breathe out is as Citic and the aerated beaker is neutral.

4). The purpose of the control beaker is to again see what to combination show results and to compare.

5). In the test beaker of water, both of the beakers remained the same. However, when the universal indicator was added the beaker that was aerated turn to neutral and a bluish green color and the beaker that was breed into turn acidic, into a orangey yellow colour.

7). Are blood does not become acidic because our blood contains HHB, hydrogen with hemoglobin molecules which do not become acidic.

8). The breathing rate at 30 seconds increase compared to the rate in 60 seconds. I think since they only have 30 seconds to breathe it cost them to hyperventilate and breathe faster in the 30 seconds.

Lung inflation and deflation lab

The diaphragm is relaxed there is no air in the lung.
